Reading Text: Holidays and Celebrations Around the World

People around the world celebrate many different holidays. These celebrations are important because they bring families and communities together. Some holidays are based on religion, history, or culture.

In Mexico, people celebrate Día de los Muertos on November 1st and 2nd. It is a time to remember family members who have passed away. People build altars with photos, flowers, candles, and food. It is a happy celebration, not a sad one.

In India, people celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Families light small oil lamps called diyas and decorate their houses. Fireworks and sweets are also part of this joyful celebration.

Chinese New Year is another colorful celebration. It usually happens in January or February. People clean their homes, give red envelopes with money to children, and enjoy parades with dragons and fireworks.
